About Healthcorps

AtlantiCare is investing in the long-term health of Atlantic County. As part of their commitment to preventive mental health and extending life expectancy in the communities they serve, AtlantiCare is offering the HealthCorps Teens Make Health Happen program starting at 10 middle and high schools across the county. This is the first year of a three-year partnership.
Teens Make Health Happen is a program of HealthCorps, a national nonprofit that has been making an impact on student and school communities for 20 years, serving over 300 school sites nationwide. HealthCorps is committed to saving lives by addressing health challenges in at-risk communities through education, leadership and service learning. HealthCorps empowers teens by encouraging them to become change agents within their families, schools and neighborhoods.
What is Teens Make Health Happen?
Teens Make Health Happen is an interactive club that empowers middle and high school students to use their passions to improve their well-being, tackle pressing health challenges, and grow as leaders in their community. Led weekly by one of our near-peer college mentors, students are engaged in interactive lessons that focus on physical, mental, and community health.

HealthCorps will provide:
-
A trained near-peer college mentor to facilitate the club weekly, overseen by a HealthCorps program manager
-
All curriculum, materials, and resources
-
Support launching the club at your site
-
Campus-wide health promotion activities
-
Access to regional HealthCorps events and network
How to support a TMHH Club at your site:
This program works because schools are genuine partners in it. Selected schools commit to:
-
Identify a dedicated staff member to serve as the club sponsor
-
Designate a space for participants to meet either during or after school
-
Help recruit students to participate in the Teens Make Health Happen Club (if outside of class time)
-
Support student-led health promoting events to help bring the power of TMHH to your entire campus
