When Exercise Goes Outdoors in Summer

Posted 07/05/2013 | By HealthCorps

Summer is in full swing and that means you are probably taking your workout outdoors.  Here are some accessories you need to make sure you are summer safe:

  • A sunblock that says “broad spectrum, UVA/UVB protection, SPF 30 or higher”
  • A lip balm that also contains sun block ingredients
  • Sunglasses that are UV protective and block 99% of UVA and UVB rays
  • A hat if you are going to be outdoors for a significant period of time
  • Light colored exercise wear that will reflect the sun’s rays
  • Exercise clothes that have “wick away” moisture barrier material
  • Tennis shoes that are breathable, which helps to reduce sweat
  • Water so you hydrate before and after exercising
  • An electrolyte-containing beverage if your workout lasts longer than one hour
