What’s Happening in Food Trends 2015?

As the year closes out, here are just some of the food trends guaranteed to pop up on supermarket shelves in 2015:

More “healthy foods” – During 2012 TO 2013 nearly 30,000 healthier food products were available to consumers.  That number continues to explode with functional foods and drinks, fortified foods, vitamin infused waters and foods, high fiber offerings, and more.

A higher protein soybean – soybeans are already credited with being unique beans because they have all the essential amino acids.  This new variety may have 3% higher protein, mature earlier in the field and be hardy enough so that crop yields are more robust. With plant-based proteins being recommended in a balanced diet, be on the lookout for this new soybean.

Healthier vending machines offering salads and fruit salads in Mason jars, along with yogurts and nuts will become more popular.  The trend of the healthier vending machine appears to be moving from the mandate in schools to mainstream USA.

Expect to see darker brews of coffee, new dark chocolate variations, and ethnic foods like Asian, Korean and Vietnamese trending strong, along with juicing.  Healthy home meal kits with recipes will also trend strong, with availability online (overnight delivery) and home delivery service.

Quick food tip: This is a good time of year to clean out your fridge, pantry, medicine cabinet, and makeup drawer and check expiration dates. When in doubt toss it out!
