What type of exercise fits your needs?

Time (July 6/July 13, 2015 issue) examined the best exercise fit for specific goals.

If your goal is to offset aging, then you want to address muscle mass loss. Weight lifting or strength training helps to preserve your muscles. And yes, women can lift heavier weights without concern. You won’t bulk up like a man.

If you are battling excess fat, then high-intensity intervals can help to effectively burn significant calories, allowing you to utilize fat stores. This is calorie-burning exercise.

If you’re looking to improve cognition (at any age) a brisk walk on a regular basis can help. Walking seems to stimulate the parts of your brain involved in memory and learning.

Quick tip:
If water fun is your forte, then you need to know where the best beaches in America are. Huntington Beach State Park in California ranks as #1, followed by runners’ up:
• Clearwater Beach in Pinellas County, Florida
• Cumberland Island in Camden County, Georgia
• Seven Mile Beach in Cape May County, New Jersey
• Hapuna Beach, Hawaii County, Hawaii
