Despite the threat of rain all day, the skies cleared at about 5 pm on Wednesday evening, May 22, as fitness buffs showed up for a special fundraiser at the Mercedes Club, a premier exercise and spa destination in New York City.  The event offered attendees a choice of three fitness classes – kickboxing, cardio-dance or spinning, with star talent at the helm of each class, followed by snacks and a special stress reduction presentation.  Rounding out the evening was a raffle drawing for some amazing prizes.

Well and Good is a destination website for happenings and trends in health, beauty and fitness.  They are known for tracking the hottest trends and for creating collaborations between like-minded health, fitness and beauty organizations.

They are one of the leaders in this type of online portal with over 45,000 subscribers and growing.  This event was sold out, with over 90 attendees.

One Medical (www.onemedical.com) offers a unique approach to healthcare with online scheduling, same day-on time appointments, longer office visits, and primary care that is personal, accessible and affordable.  They value the physician-patient relationship and focus on prevention as well as integrative medicine.  With six offices in New York City, and offices in San Francisco, Washington D.C., Boston and Chicago, this full service concierge medicine model is committed to “reinventing health care one patient at a time.”

The Mercedes Club is a state-of-the-art gym with amazing indoor and outdoor spaces, a full service spa, and a unique floor concept that hosts a special lounge area that encourages gym members to socialize and network.  On this evening, the spinning and cardio-dance classes took advantage of the outdoor spaces, adding a refreshing element to the classes.  The kickboxing class was a high energy experience that had participants kicking and punching in choreographed sequences, glistening with sweat by the end of the hour.

Snacks were donated and included Plan Tea, Health Warrior Chia Bars and Chobani Greek Yogurt Flips.  Everyone gathered on the outdoor plaza for a presentation by Dr. Ronald Englert, a Family Medicine physician at One Medical.  The breathing technique he presented, called “4-7-8,” will surely help everyone with daily stress reduction.  Raffle prizes included a one year membership to the One Medical, a 3 month membership to the Mercedes Club, and a spa package at the club’s spa.

The evening netted close to $2,500 for HealthCorps and surely, many new supporters.
