On December 11, 2012, The New Orleans Advocate featured coordinator Travonda Favorite and her Health Fair at McDonogh 35 College Preparatory High School.

The article showcased the importance of HealthCorps’ work.

The column was titled, Students Taught How to Make Fitness Fun.

Kari Dequine Harden, New Orleans bureau reporter, discussed the all-day health fair in the school gymnasium.  Some of the featured booths included “The Truth about Poop” and “Yuk or Yum” taste tests.  The Health Fair also featured a hydration station with facts about beverages loaded with sugars.

Another demonstration showcased the difference between healthier and not-so-healthy fats, from a digestion and body utilization perspective.  Ms. Harden reported that the HealthCorps’ mission is to inspire kids to change once armed with information, rather than telling them what to do.  Coordinator Travonda Favorite was quoted in the article, and she shared some of the features of the HealthCorps’ in-school curriculum.
