USANA Presents The Richie Byrne Show as Part of its Ongoing Philanthropic Commitment to HealthCorps
Thursday, July 11th, was a special night as The Richie Byrne Show presented live music, skits and a variety of comedic entertainment as well as a final weigh in by Richie himself for Lose for a Cause, raising funds for HealthCorps. USANA Life Sciences sponsored this particular production of The Richie Byrne Show, a theatrical fund raiser for our non-profit organization founded by Mehmet Oz, M.D. As part of its continuing multiyear commitment to funding HealthCorps’ work in high-need high schools teaching fitness, nutrition and mental resilience, USANA earnestly enters the arts landscape with its decision to underwrite The Richie Byrne Show. Portions of the grant and proceeds from the show go directly to HealthCorps and the facilitation of its programs in 66 schools located in 14 states and the District of Columbia.
Those lucky enough to attend the production saw a talented crew present comedic skits and delightful song, while some incredibly talented stand-up comedians, including RC Smith, who happens to warm up the audience for The Chew (one of whose co-hosts is Daphne Oz), had the crowd roaring with laughter. Mid-point during the show, Juan Brea, COO of HealthCorps and Dave Wentz, CEO of USANA Life Sciences, readied the scale. Richie’s starting weight was 260.6 pounds. His weigh in on Thursday revealed a svelte 226 pounds, with a loss to date of 34.6 pounds. Lose for a Cause collected one dollar per pound from individuals who joined the pledge, and the evening also raised additional funds for HealthCorps through sales of tickets for the performance at New World Stages in New York City.
“Using the arts as a fund raising mechanism is a smart way to call attention to the great mission of an organization like HealthCorps, while providing the opportunity for a great evening of entertainment,” said Dave Wentz, CEO of USANA Life Sciences. “Since our relationship with HealthCorps, we have watched them think out of the box with their various efforts, and are always enthused with how they include the community and keep the profile of their work high.”
In accordance with its philosophy that drives its corporate philanthropy, USANA has sponsored HealthCorps for two years with a large financial commitment that winds up directly in classrooms to pay for salaries of the coordinators and other programming needs. HealthCorps’ coordinators are recent college graduates who carry out unique in-school and community programming, targeting high-need populations in high schools across the nation. Funding a public theater production allows the community a window into the good work of Healthcorps as it also showcases the social responsibility of USANA.
Many thanks to USANA, Richie Byrne and his team of talented actors, comedians and musicians who all contributed to this uniquely wonderful fundraiser!
