The Richie Byrne Weight Loss Project

Richie Byrne found himself 14 months later in 2012, hosting another event for Dr. Oz, this time at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The show, sponsored by USANA, featured Dr. Oz, Lisa Oz and other notable health and wellness experts with thousands of attendees. Richie had a huge moment of clarity on stage and thought, “I can’t believe I didn’t sustain the change I committed to after the Chicago Health Expo…..what happened??” The next day he continued to obsess about his ongoing weight issue, how he had let himself (and Dr. Oz) down, and he realized that some of the failure was due to fear…..fear of not succeeding….of being unable to live with a long term sustained commitment. He decided that if his weight loss pledge involved raising funds for a cause – one with a “fight obesity” platform, then the stakes would be even higher and the payoff would be huge for him and the organization he was pledging to help.

HealthCorps was a perfect choice. Created by Dr. Oz and Lisa Oz, its message of teen health, battling teen obesity and building teen mental resiliency was a perfect fit for the comedian who realized how difficult weight loss is as an adult. So why not raise funds for an organization that tries to intercept weight issues before adulthood, while personally shedding the excess weight?? And thus, The Richie Byrne Weight Loss Project was born.
