The germiest place in your kitchen…The Blender??

Posted 05/01/2013 | By HealthCorps

A new report suggests that it may be the spots or utensils in the kitchen that are less obvious, that harbor the most serious germs.  Some of the organisms found by researchers included yeast, mold, salmonella, listeria, and E.coli.  The study analyzed 14 commonly used kitchen items.  They included:

  • Refrigerator vegetable bin
  • Refrigerator meat compartment
  • Blender gasket (the rubber seal in the bottom)
  • Can opener
  • Rubber spatula (which often has 2 parts that need to be opened and washed separately)
  • Refrigerator water dispenser
  • Refrigerator ice dispenser
  • Knife block
  • Food storage containers with rubber seals
  • Can openers
