Name: Katherine Torres
College University: University of Houston-Clear Lake
HealthCorps Placement: Yates High School in Houston, Texas
Fun Fact: I started my career as a makeup artist in the Houston area at the age of 16.
Katherine wants to live in a world where all youth have the necessary resources and information they need in order to better their well-being, achieve their goals, and become more than what they ever thought they were capable of becoming.
As the Program Coordinator-Juvenile Justice Liaison at HealthCorps, she’s dedicated herself to counsel youth, promote healthy lifestyles, and is ambitious about leading programs to improve their growth!
Her favorite part about working for HealthCorps is knowing that she is making a difference in a teen’s life through mentoring and education through the help of an organization who shines a light on the importance of well-being.
As a native of Baytown, Texas, she graduated from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in 2019. Since then, she has worked as a counselor for at-risk youth through Houston’s TAPS program throughout various Houston high schools and the Harris County juvenile detention facilities.
Katherine is most proud of her parents and their journey to the American dream. As immigrants, they taught her the importance of hard-work and what it truly means to never give up.
During her free-time, you can find her biking with friends, eating at Houston hot spots, or out and about with her family!
Katherine’s craziest dream is to create a program that teaches young girls in detention centers all about makeup/skincare and how self-love can help us improve our mental health.
