Spotlight on Encina Preparatory High School Health Fair

Posted 05/12/2015 | By HealthCorps

The third annual Encina Preparatory High School Health Fair was dance driven…..VERY dance driven.  The Sacramento Kings Dancers were featured performers, hoofing it up and delighting the crowd and Zumba brought attendees to their feet.  The spotlight was on the school’s iDigit dance team, and they did not disappoint.

The health fair also featured community and student-run booths that included meditation and breathing techniques, sustainable living, health benefits of tea and coffee, tobacco and bullying prevention, yoga and the very popular AcroYoga, West African drum and dance, and a Teen Battle Chef competition with walnuts as a featured healthy ingredient in both recipes.  Specific student topics and interactive opportunities included highlighting the sugar and caffeine content of popular drinks, fitness and obstacle course, and an optimism photo booth.

Our partner, the California Walnut Board, funds Encina’s HealthCorps coordinator to promote lifestyle wellness, including nutrition, physical activity, and mental resilience, along with advocating for a healthier environment on campus and in the community.
