Safer Skincare

Posted 04/13/2012 | By HealthCorps

A recent study suggests that some skincare products that promise skin-lightening or anti-aging effects, may contain harmful levels of mercury, or if used over time, expose consumers to dangerous cumulative levels of mercury.

Beware of different ingredient terms that all suggest mercury content, including:

  • Mercurous chloride
  • Calomel
  • Mercuric
  • Mercurio
  • Mercury

There are a number of skincare companies now advertising “natural ingredients,” but again, always read the entire label to make sure that ingredients like mercury are not lurking in the cream, lotion or skin product.
