HealthCorps and Westin Hotels & Resorts Partner Together Westin Hotels & Resorts “Westin Weekend” Gifting Spree Wraps Up with Gift to HealthCorps Designated School
The teacher’s lounge at Academy for Conservation and the Environment (A.C.E.) in Canarsie, Brooklyn buzzed with activity on April 22nd, as representatives from Westin Hotels & Resorts prepared to present the final gifts from their month long, star-studded “Make Monday Better” program.
The program’s core message of eat healthy, exercise and get enough sleep, was a perfect partner to HealthCorps’ curriculum of mental resilience, nutrition and fitness. Celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito, a HealthCorps’ ambassador, along with pro athletes Justin Tuck of the New York Giants and LaTroy Hawkins of the New York Mets joined forces to surprise the unsuspecting students, present messages of lifestyle encouragement and to reveal a newly renovated $25,000 fitness center donated by Westin Hotels & Resorts. Teachers at the school received beautiful gift boxes with a voucher for a Westin weekend vacation as a thank you for their commitment to education.
While the students were guided to the school’s gymnasium, Justin Tuck and LaTroy Hawkins were in seclusion, signing footballs and baseballs as gifts for some of lucky recipients. Chef Rocco signed copies of his newly released book, Eat This Quick, a special gift for all the teachers at the school. Principal Eugene Mazzola opened the presentation to the students, highlighting the wonderful work of the HealthCorps’ program and especially coordinator Courtland Kouassiaman, fondly known as CK to the students. Next up was Rocco DiSpirito who told the students that, “They can make a difference. They can embrace lifestyle changes and take them home to teach their parents as well.” While the students enjoyed refreshing (and healthy) fruit Pop Bars, Justin Tuck and LaTroy Hawkins entered the gymnasium to stunned silence followed by hysterical cheering.
They both shared the importance of “eating right – working out – getting enough rest.” Justin Tuck emphasized how an athlete like himself, needs the discipline to work out and, “Really take care of his body, so that it performs optimally.” He also told the students how lucky they were to have a program like HealthCorps in their school. Together, the two athletes then surprised the students with a huge poster showcasing the new $25,000 fitness studio. With special rubber flooring, a universal weight system, free weights, elastic bands, weighted balls, lockers and a space large enough to accommodate group fitness classes, the students will have zero limits to fitness training opportunities.
After closing comments from principal Mazzola, chef Rocco and the athletes headed to the new studio, along with Westin executives, CK and a group of ACE students to try out the new equipment. No surprise that Justin Tuck was the all around winner in the weight lifting contest!! Students beamed as they worked out on the new equipment and shared small talk with their athlete heroes.
The surprise gifting moment at A.C.E. High School completed the series of three consecutive events designed to “Make Monday Better” for unsuspecting, often unsung heroes, and to mark the global rollout of the brand’s new Westin Weekend program. Earlier this month, actor Mark Consuelos dropped in on hundreds of nurses at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and presented them with Westin Weekend getaways, while actress Emmanuelle Chriqui teamed up with Simmons Bedding Company to surprise LA County firefighters by outfitting an outdated firehouse with the brand’s iconic Heavenly(R) Beds. Chriqui, who arrived at FSA Camp 2 in La Cañada Flintridge in a Simmons(R) delivery truck, surprised the volunteers with 29 Heavenly Beds, exclusively manufactured by the bedding company.
The teachers at ACE will each enjoy a unique experience at Westin Hotels, thanks to new dedicated weekend program that gives guests more flexibility and time to make the most out of their weekend getaway. In addition to complimentary 3 p.m. late check-out on Sundays, Westin hotels are extending breakfast service hours throughout the weekend. To set the stage for the new program all Westin hotels will signal the weekend has arrived through a variety of subtle sensory cues including changes in lighting, music and décor. Each guestroom will feature the brand’s signature Heavenly Bed bathrobe placed on the bed accompanied by a list of favorite local attractions to officially welcome guests to their weekend.
