A Recap of Some Unique HealthCorps Moments 2013
HealthCorps helped to change the lives of more than 37,000 students through the peer-mentor intervention model of “Living Labs,” currently at 62 high schools across the country. One of the stories of transformation featuring HealthCorps at Benson PolyTechnic High School in Portland, Oregon can be seen in the documentary, The Heart of the Matter.
HealthCorps University became a reality – sharing the HealthCorps curriculum with 250 campers at Camp Pennbrook in New Jersey, with eight educators and 75 students at Rosemont High School in Sacramento, and with twenty five social services staffers at DACCO in Tampa, Florida. The traditional HealthCorps yearly Thanksgiving outreach was a success, thanks to the generosity of HealthCorps co-founder, Lisa Oz. One family in each of our sixty two schools received a generous and delicious Thanksgiving meal.
It’s our pleasure to announce one of our newest partners, family-owned Toufyan Bakeries. One of the largest family-run bakeries in the U.S., and makers of over 100 varieties of baked goods including pita, wraps, bagels and flatbreads, the product line contains many whole grain, gluten free and “smart options” that whole families can enjoy. Their products are available nationwide.
The partnership was announced in mid-December and Karen Toufaya, V.P. of Sales and Marketing shared, “We whole-heartedly support HealthCorps’ mission to shape a newer, healthier generation. We are honored to be part of their program and very excited to help kids find delicious ways to power their bodies with food. As a family business, helping families find nutritious, delicious ways to enjoy food together, at home and on the go is an inspiration to us every day.” Toufayan Bakeries will be offering better-for-you lunch options will be available in many of the high schools were the HealthCorps curriculum is offered and at community-sponsored events.
