Is there a specific type of cinnamon that offers the most health benefits?

You may have heard that cinnamon can provide health benefits, especially when it comes to modulating blood sugar levels. It is important to make sure that you buy the cinnamon that has the most antioxidant activity. Ceylon cinnamon is available at specialty food stores and online. Another good cinnamon choice is Cassia cinnamon also called Chinese or Saigon cinnamon. It has a bit less antioxidant value, but it is cheaper than Ceylon.

Faced with the dilemma, which would you choose – a cutting board made from wood or plastic?

They are actually both fine for use in the kitchen, as long as you follow some basic rules.

Plastic may be easier to sanitize since you can throw it in the dishwasher, but a hardwood cutting board will actually suck bacteria into the small scratches that form, and as the wood dries after use, keep the bacteria captured deep in the grain so they die.

Plastic boards often develop more scratches than hardwood boards.

You can now buy bamboo or grass boards, as they are called, which offer a very hard surface and resist bacteria. Just make sure the bamboo board you buy is hard (some can be softer).

Use different boards for raw meats, vegetables, and fruits, and make sure to wash all cutting boards in hot soapy water. Allow wood boards to dry completely.
