HealthCorps Coordinators go back to school; Living Labs expands throughout the country

Posted 09/24/2018 | By HealthCorps

This school year, 27 coordinators from around the country begin their tenure as HealthCorps Living Labs coordinators, they will impact the lives of thousands of students each day. Our coordinators commit to HealthCorps for two years and facilitate the HealthCorps’ skills based curriculum (fitness, nutrition, mental strength, and personal health) at their schools throughout the school year while developing a strong relationship with school personnel and officials to deliver the HealthCorps components. Additionally, coordinators convene and engage with the school wellness council. Coordinators are recent college graduates who go on to careers in medicine, public health policy or wellness practices.

For the 2018-2019, HealthCorps’ Living Labs has grown to 46 sites from last year’s 28 sites with notable expansions in Arizona, Kentucky, Oklahoma and California. HealthCorps is excited to have its Living Labs program return to Arizona after a 4-year hiatus thanks to our partner, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona.

Coordinators will help extend HealthCorps’ message beyond the classroom by organizing health events such as health fairs, parent and teacher outreach events, lunch time demonstrations, and an after school cooking club. They will also serve as a mentors and role models to the students.
