Palm Beach Lakes Community High School student Lynnese Austin awarded HealthCorps scholarship for community based leadership
(WEST PALM BEACH, FL) – May 14, 2018– HealthCorps® (www.healthcorps.org), a national non-profit that builds resilience in America’s youth through innovative health and wellness education, is pleased to announce it has awarded Palm Beach Lakes Community High School senior Lynnese Austin with the prestigious HealthCorps Junior Board Award, an annual scholarship that is given to a HealthCorps student who best takes the HealthCorps message of health and wellness outside the classroom and into the world.
Lynnese was nominated for the award by Blaire Hirt, HealthCorps coordinator at Palm Beach Lakes Community High School. “Lynnese is the most reliable student I have seen at Palm Beach Lakes, she is always where I need her and always there to help me. Many students flock to her for advice and help with assignments. As a full time student who also works part time to support her family, she has been the example for many of her peers on how to handle life’s responsibilities,” said Hirt.
As a member of Palm Beach Lakes Community High School’s HealthCorps Club, she volunteered at the Riveria Beach Health Fair as a booth leader and was also lead coordinator for all of the volunteers at the event. She is also a member of Key Club and Take Stock in Children. Next year, Lynnese will attend Florida Atlantic University.
Lynnese was recognized at the 12th Annual HealthCorps Gala last month by TV host and author Daphne Oz and her husband John Jovanovich. The HealthCorps Junior Board scholarship award was created by Oz and Jovanovich in 2016 to award an outstanding student who possesses excellent communication skills, professionalism and responsibility and has made a significant contribution to their school community. Each year students from across the country are nominated by their HealthCorps coordinators and the final awardee is selected from a group of three finalists.
Lynnese and her accomplishments will be celebrated by the Palm Beach School District on May 17 at Fulton-Holland Educational Services Center in West Palm Beach from 3:00pm-6:00pm. Media is invited to attend.
