SALINAS, CA (February 9, 2018) — HealthCorps, a national health and wellness nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Mehmet Oz, will host a health fair at Alisal High School in Salinas, CA on February 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Over 1000 students are expected to attend. Members of the media are asked to check-in at the entrance of the gymnasium on the day of the event.

The health fair will include student-run booths led by 23 students displaying key HealthCorps lessons that are taught throughout the school year, including physical activity, nutrition, and mental resilience. Other student-run booth topics will include: animal therapy, diabetes, the importance of sleep, reading nutrition labels and stress management.

“It has been an exciting journey to watch the students at Salinas High School become health and wellness leaders in their community,” said Courtney Baldwin, Salinas High School HealthCorps Living Lab Coordinator.

In addition to the student-run booths, there will be booths led by members of the Salinas community. These booths will include: City of Salinas, Hartenell College Vocational Nursing, CSUMB Health Science Service Learning, Food Bank of Monterey County and Salinas YMCA.

About HealthCorps

HealthCorps is a national non-profit organization that gives teens short and long-term lifesaving skills for physical and mental health so they and their families can live longer, more productive and happier lives. HealthCorps students exercise more, eat better and practice positive thought. The program will impact almost 1 million students across the United States in 2017.

The HealthCorps curriculum has been refined and developed in its in-school Living Labs program since 2003, where a full-time Coordinator is placed inside a high-need high school for two years to mentor hundreds of students, teach health related workshops, and promote a variety of during and after school activities. Coordinators are recent college graduates who go on to careers in medicine, public health policy or wellness practices.
