National Nonprofit – HealthCorps a special guest at KCRA Health and Wellness Festival
TIME: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
DATE: Saturday, May 16, 2015
PLACE: Roseville Galleria, 1151 Galleria Blvd., Roseville, CA 95678
HealthCorps, a national nonprofit focused on reversing the obesity trend among youth by inspiring healthier lifestyles, is a special guest at the KCRA-TV Health and Wellness Festival featuring Dr. Oz.
Founded in 2003 by Dr. Oz and his wife Lisa to combat the childhood obesity crisis, HealthCorps educates teens in nutrition, fitness and mental resilience in 55 high schools nationwide, including six in the Sacramento area. The organization is shaping a new generation by educating teens in areas that strengthen their lives, including fostering personal health and wellness by providing tailored lessons that lay a foundation as students segue from high school to the “real world.”
Integration into KCRA’s Health and Wellness Festival at the Roseville Galleria is part of HealthCorps’ community outreach efforts, held to promote the program and highlight students’ successes.
HealthCorps President Michelle Bouchard will be on hand to thank Sacramento and the capital region for the tremendous support it has shown the nonprofit over the past four years. “HealthCorps is excited to participate in such a fun-filled and impactful event in the Sacramento community,” Bouchard said. “KCRA’s Health and Wellness Festival gives our founder, Dr. Oz, our coordinators and our students the opportunity to work with other meaningful organizations in the region to create a memorable day that can empower participants to make healthy choices for the rest of their lives.”
HealthCorps will provide hours of entertainment, interactive activities and educational opportunities for all ages. Some examples include:
- Sacramento Kings Dancers
- Teen Battle Chef competition between Hiram Johnson, Health Professions and McClatchy High Schools. The competition, hosted by Dr. Oz, will be judged by Chef Patrick Mulvaney, Sacramento Kings President Chris Granger and his wife Jennifer, and California Walnut Board Executive Director Dennis Balint
- AcroYoga performance presented by The Handstand Nation
- Meditation demonstration with Sahaja Meditation
- iDigit dance team from Encina High School
