WHAT: Two teams of HealthCorps students from West Mecklenburg High School will compete in a healthy snack-off using Toufayan pitettes. Saturday’s snack-off will feature Italian Bruschetta –v- Greek Salad. Chef Diane Henderiks will judge each team on taste, creativity, and presentation
West Mecklenburg High School is one of 62 high schools across 13 states and Washington, D.C. that participates in the HealthCorps program. Founded in 2003 by heart surgeon and Daytime Emmy Award-winning host Dr. Mehmet Oz and his wife Lisa, HealthCorps is an innovative in-school model for teaching a progressive curriculum in nutrition, fitness and mental strength. HealthCorps coordinators, like Madeleine Dick-Godfrey, are recent college graduates and work in high schools for two years. Garinger High School also participates in the HealthCorps program.
Diane Henderiks is a personal chef and Registered Dietitian on a mission to teach America how to cook and eat well! Diane’s passion for food, nutrition and exercise has framed her life and career. She has been an all-state field hockey player, personal trainer, group fitness and spin instructor, gym owner, bartender, food columnist, recipe developer, martial artist, college nutrition professor, caterer and personal chef. Diane has become a go-to food, healthy cooking and eating expert for national television, print and on-line media.
