Mechel’s Winter Bucket List
By Mechel Dickerson | HealthCorps Coordinator 2017 – 2019
I don’t know about anyone else, but the days, weeks and months seem to be flying by this year! In my case I’m not sure if it’s because I am getting older so the whole “adulting” thing is making life seem so crazy busy or that I don’t take time to do things I enjoy. Honestly, it’s a combination of both along with other things that life throws at me, but I decided to be more intentional this winter and do things I love. I tend to get so wrapped up in all the things I have to get done or check off my to do list I look back a few months later and think to myself “Oh, I would have loved to have done X, Y, and Z.” To avoid looking back with the same feeling this holiday season I decided to make a winter bucket list and share it with you!
MY WINTER BUCKET LIST
1. Drink Hot Chocolate
I love all things chocolate and chocolate in liquid form… yes, please! My plans are to make a warm cup and sit around with family as we play our domino tournament during winter break! Don’t forget a few marshmallows to top it off!
2. Drive around and look at Christmas lights.
Growing up, my mom always took us kids around different parts of town so we could see all the beautiful Christmas lights and decorations. Here in Oklahoma, there are many places to visit to enjoy all the lights, but here in Ada, I plan to go with my friends and check out some of our favorite houses! I’m most excited about the house with the extremely long Santa list… Hopefully my name is still on the nice list!
3. Bake a Yummy Treat
I like to bake things but seldom take the time to bake sweets. The upcoming holiday is the perfect time to take some time and make a yummy treat. Still deciding between cookies, pies, or cinnamon rolls, but I plan on enjoying some time in the kitchen followed by eating some a delicious treat!
4. Have a PJ day
I am a sucker for a matching pajama set, and this winter break I am taking an entire day (maybe two… who doesn’t want to stay in their pjs) to lounge around my house. I may spend that day watching cheesy hallmark Christmas movies too!
5. Give a secret gift!
I love to give little gifts around the holidays but giving a secret gift adds to the fun for me! Whether it’s signing up for a secret Santa exchange or dropping a gift off at my friends house before they get home and not telling them it was from me, I enjoy spreading the holiday cheer!
Some of the activities on my list may seem like simple things that don’t require much time at all, but I know if I had not made this bucket list, I may not take the time to do these things this season! Most of us have our lifetime bucket list, but I think I am going to add some seasonal bucket lists so that I take time to remember to do things before the season changes! Try making a seasonal bucket list of your own or go to Pinterest and find one you like. There are tons already pre-made you can use! Slow down and do things you enjoy! Happy Holidays and bucket-list making!
