Is stretching before and after exercise necessary to prevent injuries?
Though some group instructors and athletes still continue this practice, an active warm up is probably more relevant to injury prevention. That means if you are going out for a run, start with a brisk walk and then jog a bit till you finally feel ready to break into a full run. When you end your run, continue to walk for a minute or two to allow your heart rate to come down. At that point, if you enjoy stretching, your muscles will be warm and pliable.
