If you want healthier chips, what are some good nutrition parameters to follow?
Most food experts feel that unless a particular food treat or craving causes you to indulge uncontrollably, you can include treats in your diet. But it’s a good idea to find healthier versions of some of those treats, saving truly decadent foods for special occasions.
When buying chips, single serving bags are a good idea, because that already helps with portion control. Try to target at or below 140 calories/single serve bag. Total fat should be 6 grams or less, with saturated fat 1 gram or less and zero trans fat. Sodium (salt) should be at or less than 120 mgs per serving, and there should be a small amount of fiber, at least 2 or 3 grams per serving, signaling whole grains in the ingredient list.
With these parameters, you should be able to find quite a few choices of chips. Remember to watch portion control even with healthier choices.
