HealthCorps University is Back at Camp Pennbrook for a Second Summer
HealthCorps University (HCU) is currently collaborating with Camp Pennbrook for a second summer to bring an innovative whole wellness education component to Camp Pennbrook’s already strong weight management program. A camp HCU staff person, the HealthCorps University Camp Coordinator, is on-site to deliver the program designed by the HCU and Camp Pennbrook teams.
Following up on the success of the first year, this program is a unique approach in fostering a culture of wellbeing, facilitation, increasing resources through collaborative efforts, and ultimately achieving sustainable health success with campers.
The Coordinator, who is living on site at the camp, is teaching six courses a week, hosting office hours, and mentoring campers in HealthCorps’ three curricular pillars of Nutrition, Fitness and Mental Resiliency to help create a lasting record of health and wellness. Some of the lesson plans include topics such as “What is Wellness?”; “Intro to Nutrition Labels”; and “Plating Your Portions.” The campers will no doubt learn some important lessons this summer from this collaborative effort, and hopefully be able to draw upon this information after their camp experience.
