New York – May 26, 2020 – HealthCorps® (www.healthcorps.org), a national non-profit committed to helping youth in underserved communities, is pleased to announce that the organization raised over $500,000 on Tuesday May 19th during its first-ever virtual benefit. Hosted by founders Dr. Mehmet Oz and Lisa Oz, #THRIVINGTOGETHER reflected the work HealthCorps has been doing in the hard hit communities it serves.
“Despite a global pandemic, the HealthCorps family was able to come together and THRIVE in the name of serving our youth and their communities. A big thank you to the evening’s sponsors and special guests. I am proud we were able to create a program of reflection, celebration, support and call to action. We look forward to continuing our tireless work of supporting vulnerable youth with funds raised from this virtual benefit,” said Amy Braun, CEO and President of HealthCorps.
Nearly 200,000 teens and their families have received access to physical and mental health resources that help boost immunity and combat the anxiety and isolation caused by this pandemic. When schools became food distribution points for families in need – HealthCorps jumped in to help collect, coordinate, and disseminate meals – delivering over 62,000 meals and counting to students and their families.
The virtual event featured the work of HealthCorps, along with the CVS Health Foundation and Bob Harper, Trainer & Host, The Bigger Loser for their contributions towards the well-being of America’s youth during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the Oxnard Union High School District, which is a leader in food distribution to their community’s families in need. HealthCorps is a partner in the school district’s food distribution program.
Dr. Oz served as host for the program which included appearances by Rocco DiSpirito, Guy Fieri, Candice Kumai, Bret Michaels, Daphne Oz, Tony Robbins, Stepp Stewart and Broadway’s Ryan Vasquez. The evening concluded with an interactive conversation hosted by Dr. Oz. Donations received will allow HealthCorps to continue its necessary work in the high need communities it serves.
