HealthCorps Students ‘Dive Into Health’ at High School Health Fair in Coachella Valley
Community Partners Support Local High School to Educate Teens in Activities that Strengthen Skills in Nutrition, Exercise and Mental Resiliency
Thermal, CA – (February, 24 2015) – HealthCorps® students at Coachella Valley High School, will join RAP FOUNDATION, Smart & Final, Wal Mart, Walgreens, Mariposa Fitness & Nutrition, Trader Joe’s, Big 5, Borrego Health, Cup of Happy, Spinal Injury Center, Planned Parenthood and Stater Bros to “Dive Into Health” and teach students and staff about nutrition, health and wellness at the Fourth Annual HealthCorps Health Fair from 8:30am to 12:30pm on Friday, February 27 at Coachella Valley High School. The “Under the Ocean Health Fair” will support HealthCorps’ mission to educate teens about the importance of nutrition, exercise and mental resiliency, while engaging attendees in hands-on booths and activities including Basketball Shootouts, Re-Think Your Drink lessons, Yogurt-Parfait-Making-Stations, Zumba and Obstacle Courses. The event will also be an opportunity for students and staff to learn about healthy relationships, lymphoma/leukemia, land-use planning awareness and “active minds” in a fun and exciting way.

HealthCorps Coordinators lead unique in-school and community programming designed to foster physical and mental fitness, particularly among high-need populations. The Coordinators serve as peer-mentors who deliver a progressive curriculum in nutrition, exercise and mental resiliency to students nationwide. The HealthCorps schools have served as Living Labs through which we can explore the complex, underlying causes of the obesity crisis, as well as discover, communicate implement and advocate for national and regional solutions.
Today, the program network spans 55 schools in 11 states and the District of Columbia. In 2012, we introduced HealthCorps University, a train the trainer professional development program that makes available the HealthCorps principles and curriculum to virtually any school, community or organization.
