HealthCorps Perennial Garden Gala at Cipriani Wall Street Honoring Jordin Sparks, Montel Williams, CK-12 Foundation and The Chickasaw Nation A Musical And Fundraising Success
The famed Cipriani Wall Street sparkled as people lined up to enter the Perennial Garden Gala. Noted guests from the worlds of politics, fashion, business, sports and medicine converged on the famed hot spot to celebrate HealthCorps 9th Annual Gala. With HealthCorps nationwide movement focused on educating youth about physical fitness, nutrition and mental resilience, the evening’s honorees reflected these core values. As Dr. Oz with Lisa Oz, co-founders and co-hosts of the events said, “Lisa and I are so proud of HealthCorps’ impact on American youth and the nationwide obesity epidemic, over the past decade. Recognizing Jordin Sparks, Montel Williams, the CK-12 Foundation and the Chickasaw Nation for their impressive and resolute contributions to the physical and mental resilience of past, present and future generations of America’s youth, made them perfect honorees of this year’s Gala.”
This year’s Gala offered a health fair style cocktail hour featuring delicious foods and booths including CA Walnut Board, Veggiecation, Somadome, Fresh Routes, Hip Hop Public Health, Punzone, Sahaja Meditation, Family Cook Health with Teen Battle Chef , as well as student booths showcasing lessons from the curriculum. HealthCorps coordinators and students were milling about to answer questions and highlight the in-school programs.
Press outlets lining the red carpet included People, In Touch, Life & Style, US Weekly, Extra, E! News, Access Hollywood,StyleMusic TV, WireImage, Getty, Twin Images, MediaPunch, and Globe Photos. Noted on the red carpet, in addition to Mehmet and Lisa Oz and the honorees, were Daphne Oz, Robin Roberts, Jacqueline and Chris Laurita, Melissa and Joe Gorga and Rich and Kathy Wakile of Real Housewives of New Jersey, Camille Grammer of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, NY Giants Steve Weatherford and Prince Amukamara, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Miss Teen U.S.A. and Power 105.1s Angie Martinez.
Of course, what’s a Gala without a little entertainment? Singer Kat DeLuna did not disappoint, opening the show with jaw-dropping high notes, while Broadway performer Stepp Stewart and his troupe rocked the house. Lisa Oz offered opening remarks, followed by Michelle Bouchard, president of HealthCorps.
Dr. Mehmet Oz presented Crystal Heart Award recipients, Sarah Frank, a coordinator alumnus, and Drs. Lori and Michael Smatt. Next, Dr. Oz presented the Tiffany Award to honorees The Chickasaw Nation, represented by Judith Parker, Secretary of Health, and CK-12 Foundation, represented by Founder Nehru Khosla. Text to Pledge was introduced by famed Chefs Rocco DiSpirito and Candice Kumai, and attendees then viewed a quick video from The Chew, featuring Daphne Oz and the talented hosts of the show enjoying a healthy soup prepared from a HealthCorps original recipe. Honorees Montel Williams and Jordin Sparks each received the Tiffany Award and then it was time for musical performances by Sugarhill Gang and Eturnity Band which got attendees on their feet and dancing!
The evening was filled with the clicking sounds of individuals “texting to pledge,” with $80,000 already committed halfway through the evening. There was also a unique online silent auction featuring a host of treasures including original artwork by Karla Chambers of Stahlbush Farms, NFL authentic New England Patriots football signed by Tom Brady, fabulous getaway packages, Broadway theatre tickets and more.
