HealthCorps Grassroots Garden Gala A Huge Success

On Wednesday, April 17th, in New York City, HealthCorps and Dr. and Lisa Oz honored Mr. Harold Hamm, CEO of Continental Resources and founder of the Harold Hamm Diabetes Center, and Ms. Marlo Thomas, actress, producer and social activist, for significant contributions to the health and well-being of American youth at HealthCorps’ 7th Annual Gala, the “Grassroots Garden Gala”.  With over 500 guests attending the event, $2.1 million were raised for HealthCorps.

Actor, health activist, author and HealthCorps’ Ambassador Alejandro Chabán joined Dr. Oz and Lisa Oz, Marlo Thomas, Harold Hamm, Naughty by Nature, Jermaine Paul, author and host of “The Chew” Daphne Oz, CBS Medical Correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook celebrity dermatologist Dr. Nicholas Perricone, celebrity chef Candice Kumai, author and vegan chef Alexandra Jamieson, host of TLC’s Ultimate Cake Off , George Duran and comedian Richie Byrne on the Red Carpet.

The guests, dazzling in evening wear, entered Gotham Hall and had a chance to sample foods including crostini of asparagus with mint and home-made ricotta cheese from Family Cook Productions, walnuts from California Walnut Board, chocolates from NibMor, chia muffins and chia chips from Omega Chia, yogurt hors’ doeurves from The Chia Co., freekah drinks from Freekah Foods, mescal drinks from MHW, minty pesto on brown rice crackers from Veggiecation LLC, and refreshing Evamor water among other yummy treats.  Other booths in the entry hall included: Harold Hamm Diabetes Center, Green Bronx, Sahaja Meditation, Natural Gourmet Institute, Candle 79, One Lucky Duck, Yummico, and American Diabetes Association.

Upstairs, while VIPs were photographed with Dr. and Mrs. Oz, and the EXTRA crew was filming and interviewing guests, yoga acrobatics performed by Yoga Across America entertained.  As the formal dinner began, Jermaine Paul’s performance fired up the crowd.   Lisa Oz opened the evening, followed by a dynamic and full throttle song and dance routine by the talented and unstoppable Stepp Stewart.

Short speeches by Dr. Oz and Michelle Bouchard, President of HealthCorps’ preceded the presentation of awards to the honorees, actress and philanthropist, Marlo Thomas, and  Continental Resources chief executive, Harold Hamm, noted for the Harold Hamm Diabetes Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

A rousing live auction hosted by auctioneer John Heffernan, voice of the New York Rangers, garnered a generous bidding war, which was then capped by a standing room only performance by Naughty by Nature.  After dessert, Eturnity Band kept the dancing pulsing till midnight.  As guests were leaving, they received a weighty gift bag with a copy of Daphne Oz’s new book, Relish, and filled with donated items from: Aeroscena, LLC, Angie’s Kettle Korn, Applegate, Baobab, BackJoy Orthotic LLC, Beanitos Bean Chips, Bob’s Red Mill, California Walnut Board, Crispy Green, Crystal Rock Deodorant, Drazil Foods, Drs.
