New York – April 15, 2019 – HealthCorps® (www.healthcorps.org), a national non-profit with innovative approaches to help teens grow mentally strong and physically fit, will honor Dr. Mark Goulston during the organization’s 13th Annual Gala on Tuesday, April 16 for their contributions towards the well-being of America’s youth.
HealthCorps will launch the first Dr. W. Mark Warfel Resilient Heart Award, given in memorial of New York City plastic surgeon and longtime HealthCorps board member Mark Warfel who died of a rare lymphoma last year. The inaugural award will honor Dr. Mark Goulston, for his decades of work as a “boots on the ground” suicide prevention specialist utilizing empathic listening as his main approach. Dr. Goulston is the co-creator and moderator of the suicide prevention documentary Stay Alive: An Intimate Conversation about Suicide Prevention.
The “Venetian Masquerade Gala” held this year at Cipriani’s 25 Broadway in New York will raise funds for HealthCorps to continue its steadfast mission of strengthening young people, their families and their communities.
The HealthCorps curriculum includes skills in fitness, nutrition and mental resilience as well as immediate life-saving skills such as diabetes prevention, CPR and organ donation education. Funding from this event will support the continued expansion of HealthCorps’ educational programming in schools and other sites of need around the country.
Dr. Mehmet Oz, HealthCorps Chairman, renowned cardiothoracic surgeon and the ten-time, Daytime Emmy Award-winning host of the “The Dr. Oz Show,” and his wife Lisa will co-host the Gala. They will be joined by supporters such as influencers and opinion leaders in health and wellness, celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, business leaders and acclaimed chefs.
“I am very proud that HealthCorps provides support that’s as disruptive as the incredible challenges teens face today,” said Dr. Mehmet Oz. “– which even didn’t exist one generation before.”
Michelle Bouchard, HealthCorps President, said, “The Gala is a celebration of HealthCorps’ accomplishments but also its continuing metamorphosis to fit the needs of America’s youth.”
The Gala’s “health fair” cocktail hour will feature healthy food and product booths, as well as HealthCorps curriculum. The main event will include a seated black-tie dinner, accompanied by an online auction, acceptance speeches by the honorees, and special performance by Collin Raye and Free Radicals, Courtesy of USANA Health Services, a HealthCorps National Sponsor.
