HealthCorps Coordinator starts semester at YES Prep Gulfton
NEW YORK, New York (August 22, 2019) — HealthCorps, a national health and wellness nonprofit, founded by Dr. Mehmet Oz and Lisa Oz, is pleased to announce the addition of Living Labs coordinator Travis Croom of New Braunfels, Texas to its team. Travis received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and completed his Master’s in Public Health at the UT Health Science Center School of Public Health in Houston, Texas where he also worked for two years in health research.
Travis will use HealthCorps research and public health data to create a wellness program that is uniquely suited to the needs of the community. “HealthCorps has a very clear positive impact on students and I am excited to start the school year at YES Prep Gulfton,” said Travis.
As a HealthCorps Coordinator, Travis will commit to HealthCorps for two years and facilitate the HealthCorps’ skills-based curriculum (fitness, nutrition, mental strength, and personal health) at his schools throughout the school year while developing a strong relationship with school personnel and officials to deliver the HealthCorps components. He will convene and engage with the school wellness council.
Travis will help extend HealthCorps’ message beyond the classroom by organizing health events such as health fairs, parent and teacher outreach events, lunch time demonstrations, and an after-school cooking club. He will also serve as a mentor and role model to the students.
