HealthCorps’ Community Outreach – Green Schools, Recreation Alliance and Highway to Health

Posted 04/17/2014 | By HealthCorps

Last month HealthCorps hosted a Highway to Health festival in Sacramento, as part of the Green Schools National conference, and in Los Angeles, in partnership with the Active Alliance.

HealthCorps partnered with the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure for the Highway to Health Festival in Tucson, AZ. Bikers at the event rode paths ranging from 10k to 100k to support finding a cure and to bring awareness to diabetes.

Newly renovated athletic facilities were revealed March 7 at Coachella Valley High School, and include refurbished outdoor basketball and tennis courts and a new floor for the indoor gym. The renovations will help improve the quality and safety of the recreation facilities, which will be open after school to accommodate community use. The Recreation Alliance, a partnership between The California Endowment, HealthCorps, Desert Healthcare Foundation and the National Junior Tennis League, is working to provide healthy, safe and accessible recreation facilities for youth and their families in the Coachella Valley. The new athletic facilities at Coachella Valley High School are a product of this wonderful partnership.

If you live in New York City, don’t miss the NYC Highway to Health festival, Sunday May 18th, 10 am – 4 pm at the Southstreet Seaport. Click here for more information.
