New York – May 14, 2020 – HealthCorps® (www.healthcorps.org), a national non-profit committed to helping youth in America’s underserved communities, will hold a virtual benefit to support families in need. Hosted by the organization’s founders Dr. Mehmet Oz and Lisa Oz, the #THRIVINGTOGETHER virtual benefit will take place on Tuesday May 19th at 7:00pm ET and will reflect the work the organization has been doing in the hard hit communities it serves as well as bring together HealthCorps’ champions to support feeding the minds and bodies of our nation’s most vulnerable youth.
“We are creating a program of reflection, celebration, support and call to action, because our work is far from over,” said Dr. Oz. “Lisa and I determined to make sure the most vulnerable in our HealthCorps communities continue to receive the resources they need. With COVID 19 gripping our nation, HealthCorps adapted and moved from the schoolroom to the living room to deliver educational materials through a quickly ramped up digital delivery system – the first for many regions we serve. In a few short weeks, the organization now nourishes the minds and bodies of our nation’s most vulnerable citizens whether they are in the mountains of Kentucky, the city of Houston, or the farming communities of California.”
Nearly 200,000 teens and their families have received access to physical and mental health resources that help boost immunity and combat the anxiety and isolation caused by this pandemic. When schools became food distribution points for families in need – HealthCorps jumped in to help collect, coordinate, and disseminate meals – delivering over 50,000 meals and counting to students and their families.
“One in five families in the United States are facing food insecurity, a number that is sure to increase with a rising unemployment rate. HealthCorps’ commitment to ensuring at-risk youth are safe and healthy in mind and body is an integral part of many of our communities relief work.” said Amy Braun HealthCorps CEO. “On Tuesday evening we will feature the work of HealthCorps and individuals that have demonstrated their commitment to the community, their resilience and dedication to the health of our nation’s youth. We are grateful for their flexibility in joining this virtual format, for sharing their stories and their continued dedication to our work.”
The virtual event will feature the work of HealthCorps, along with the CVS Health Foundation and Bob Harper, Trainer & Host, The Bigger Loser for their contributions towards the well-being of America’s youth during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the Oxnard Union High School District, which is a leader in food distribution to their community’s families in need.
HealthCorps founder Dr. Mehmet Oz will kick off the program which includes appearances by Rocco DiSpirito, Guy Fieri, Candice Kumai, Bret Michaels, Daphne Oz, Tony Robbins, Stepp Stewart and Broadway’s Ryan Vasquez. The evening will conclude with an interactive conversation hosted by Dr. Oz. Donations received will allow HealthCorps to continue its necessary work in the high need communities it serves.
