Dr. Mehmet Oz, Russell Simmons, Hugh Jackman and Ben Vereen Coming out To Support HealthCorps’ Fight Against Child Obesity at the Fresh from the Garden Gala – April 13
New York, NY– April 5, 2011 – HealthCorps® (www.healthcorps.org) will take its fight against child obesity to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City for its Fifth Annual Gala, “Fresh From The Garden,” on Wednesday, April 13. Heart surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz, Emmy Award-winning nationally syndicated talk show host of “The Dr. Oz Show,” and his wife Liza Oz, Co-Founders of HealthCorps, will serve as the event’s Co-Hosts.
WHAT: The Black Tie event to benefit HealthCorps will honor Hollywood and philanthropic couple Deb and Hugh Jackman; Russell Simmons, producer, philanthropist and wellness advocate; and Miami real-estate developer and philanthropist, Tibor Hollo. Dr. Mehmet Oz will serve as master of ceremonies.

WHEN: Wednesday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m. E.T. The Gala will kick off with a Red Carpet “step and repeat” during the cocktail “health fair” hour and includes a seated dinner at 8 p.m.; silent and live auctions; acceptance speeches by the honorees during the dinner; and dancing until midnight.

WHO: Dr. Oz and his wife Lisa Oz will address guests and act as co-hosts. Actor and Performer Ben Vereen; Caron Wheeler, Grammy winner and former lead singer of Soul II Soul; and Broadway actor Stepp Stewart will perform.

Proceeds raised at the Gala will be used to establish HealthCorps in additional high schools across the country in the coming school year and reach at least 400 schools in all 50 states by 2015.
