NEW YORK CITY (October 15, 2015) – In an early start to the holiday giving season, HealthCorps is hosting a Disco Fundraiser to continue and expand its in-school programming aimed at eliminating the childhood obesity crisis.

Founded in 2003 by Dr. Mehmet Oz and his wife Lisa, the nonprofit HealthCorps is active in 44 high-needs high schools nationwide, in 10 states and the District of Columbia. Bridging the gap between school curriculum and real-world needs, HealthCorps Coordinators – recent college graduates with a passion for health – work in classrooms, the lunchroom and run after-school clubs that incorporate nutrition, fitness and mental resilience into a comprehensive health education.

One-third of HealthCorps’ Living Labs (the schools with such programming) are located within NYC, including the High School of Fashion Industries in Chelsea.

“Chelsea, known for its awesome nightlife, is also home to one of our Living Lab schools. What better way to raise money to help young people than dancing the night away,” said HealthCorps President Michelle Bouchard. “We hope people will get a little Saturday Night Fever and Boogie Down with the HealthCorps family!”
