Posted 10/20/2014 | By HealthCorps

Name: Jessica Williams

Age: 23

Hometown: Fresno, CA

College Attended / Major: Cal Poly SLO, Kinesiology

HealthCorps School Placement: Edison High School in Fresno, California

Fun Fact: My HealthCorps school was my own high school’s sports rival.

Jeffrey Hartinger: How did you become involved with HealthCorps?

Jessica Williams: I became involved via a Yoga Across America employee that knew of the opening and told me about it. I then applied and got the job as a mid-year hire.

JH: What has been the highlight of your placement so far?

JW: My favorite Healthcorps moment has been all of the students I get to interact with. They bring me out of my shell and make me a better person all around and not just at school. I love that they hold me accountable as a healthy example.

JH: Outside of the classroom, what are some of the activities that you are involved with?

JW: I am involved with the schools spirit club, we have 3 cooking clubs that I run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school and at lunch on Thursdays. I also am involved with the bio-med club called Club Med and we are working toward having community outreach projects. I also have worked a lot with the counseling department to come up with educational activities to do for the freshman class during testing times.

JH: What do you plan to pursue after your service to HealthCorps is complete?

JW: I haven’t fully decided what I want to do after HealthCorps. I know I do love working with people, but I also love the coordination of large events. I have a year and a little to figure it out.

JH: What is one thing you have learned from your placement that you will be able to carry with you as you move forward in life?

JW: I have learned to never take life too seriously and to live in the moment and not in the future or the past because you will never have a moment like the present.

We want to thank Jessica Williams for her exceptional work and congratulate her for being this month’s coordinator of the month.
