Are there any natural remedies for aching muscles?

If you suffer with isolated aching muscles from an enthusiastic workout, then you can apply ice (use a thin barrier – never apply ice directly to the skin) to help reduce inflammation and the minimal to moderate pain you may be feeling.  If you have “general achiness in multiple locations” then you may want to try drinking some watermelon juice.  A study in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry (2013, 61 [31], 7322 – 28) suggests that watermelon juice may have certain “healing properties.”

Specifically the research seemed to indicate that watermelon’s specific antioxidants are associated with increasing muscle protein and enhancing athletic performance.  And the natural juice of watermelon seems to have good bioavailability, meaning your body will absorb its nutrients easily, making it an excellent way to relieve post-exercise soreness.

It’s also important to remember that when you do work out with weights, you should allow a minimum of 24 to 48 hours of rest, before challenging the same muscles again.
