A Yoga Tip From Yoga Across America: Breathe In, Breathe Out.

Posted 04/24/2013 | By HealthCorps

Breath comes first in yoga.  You can bring yourself into the present moment at any time, by bringing your awareness to your breath.

Easy Breathing Exercise:

Sit at the end of a chair, with your feet on the floor, hip distance apart.  Rest you hands on your thighs, with your palms facing up, fingers relaxed in.  Close your eyes, gently close your lips, and soften your jaw.  Inhale and exhale through your nose, counting to five for each inhale, and five for each exhale.  Make the lengths of the breaths the same – slow, long, calm breaths, in and out through your nose.  If thoughts come up, allow them to dissolve away, one by one.

Whether you have 30 seconds or 10 minutes, you can do this any time and anywhere. You’ll feel a sense of calm and peace from this simple pranayama practice.
