A Life-saving Tip

Posted 05/25/2012 | By HealthCorps

If you or a loved one has a life threatening allergy to food, medication or an insect sting, then there is one thing you can do to ensure that proper medical care is given, in the event of a medical emergency. You can now buy a medical alert necklace, bracelet or other form of jewelry that clearly states your medical information. These items are now available online or in specialty drugstores, and can alert a bystander or a medical professional to life-saving therapies.

If you have a serious insect allergy, then consult with a doctor, and ask about keeping an Epi-Pen (or Epi-Pen junior, if you are under age 12) with you at all times. This injection can be self administered in the thigh and delivers epinephrine immediately, averting a serious life-threatening situation.
