Treadmill or Elliptical For My Workout?

Posted 06/12/2015 | By HealthCorps

If you really want to burn calories then choose the treadmill. Though you may be able to mimic intensity, the constantly moving belt on the treadmill forces you to work harder and probably burn more calories.  If you prefer the elliptical, you can increase the resistance and incline, but you will still have to force yourself to work harder. When you get distracted or tired, you will likely slow down a bit. The treadmill’s moving belt forces you to maintain your effort and your pace.

Some elliptical machines do offer a combined arm and leg workout, allowing you to alternate a “legs alone” workout versus combining arms and legs together. You can also alternate workouts and add vigorous intervals to increase exertion and effort.

Most experts recommend a program with some workout days involving vigorous and consistent effort, and recovery days, with an easier fitness effort.
