There is new evidence that your heart health is important to your brain health. In fact, if you have diabetes type 2 and heart disease (which can often be silent in the presence of diabetes), you are at increased risk of cognitive decline.
The new study looked specifically at patients with diabetes type 2 and “subclinical” which means not obvious yet coronary vascular disease. The study did find that the subclinical heart disease was present in many of the study subjects. Since it is typically not detected for many years, it can cause damage long before you actually begin to have symptoms of heart disease, and seek treatment.
