What Do You Know about Resveratrol?

Resveratrol is a compound found in grapes, red wine, blueberries, cranberries and peanuts. It’s an anti-oxidant and the buzz surrounding its health impact has created a burgeoning supply of supplements claiming to contain this active compound. Most of the research involving this anti-oxidant has been on animals. One journal, Cell, reported that it could increase endurance, based on a treadmill study that was reviewed. So of course, trainers everywhere started to recommend supplements containing resveratrol to their clients. Another claim by manufacturers was that regular supplementation could help people trying to lose weight or maintain weight. So is taking resveratrol supplements a good idea?

Right now most health experts say to proceed with great caution since full data studies may not be available for years. What they do recommend is to eat sources of food that have resveratrol, since food is the way nature intended you to utilize this anti-oxidant.
