Pregnancy Does Not Demand Eating for Two!!

If you are thinking of getting pregnant, then assess your weight. New data shows that if you are already carrying a significant amount of excess weight, losing it before you get pregnant can bode well for your health during pregnancy and the health of your unborn child.

Once you're pregnant, the new mantra is – You should NOT eat for two. You only need to increase your caloric intake by a couple of hundred calories. That does not translate to extra snacks daily, eating processed foods and treats and behaving as if you have a license to gorge for 9 months. In fact, the new guidelines even suggest limiting weight gain or gaining no weight if you are already overweight. Excess maternal weight during pregnancy can lead to diabetes, dangerous high blood pressure, and lifelong obesity for the mother.
