It’s just before Christmas – Don’t go ho-hum on health
It is so easy to throw caution to the wind and say, “I’ll just indulge this one time.” Problem is, this one time can become a bunch of occasions that you view in isolation. It’s just Christmas. It’s just New Year’s Eve, It’s just New Year’s Day, It’s just my birthday…anniversary…. graduation….. promotion party…..the list goes on and on and yet you typically view each event as “just one time.”
You will never win the battle of the bulge or improve your health profile if this is your basic operating pattern. What you can do right now during all the special meal times that will occur from now through the end of 2011 is choose. Choose to be selective with the amounts of treats and special occasion dishes you have and choose to simply be aware. Be aware of portions and how many treats you are choosing to have. Find some middle ground or balance between having some specialty food items and staying in control of your diet and frankly your health. It is so easy to have some extra alcoholic drinks and “forget about them.” Those drinks can easily loosen your inhibitions, allowing you to eat more than you should. The next day you easily forget the experience or you simply don’t objectively recognize just how much you actually drank and ate. And the cycle continues……….
This holiday season just choose….to be aware and to make choices. It’s called balance and moderation, and it will serve your waistline and your health profile well. Happy Holidays!!
