Fixing Those Skincare Problems
Along with losing weight, most of us want to look good on the outside too, so banishing skin saboteurs can go a long way to bolstering your self-esteem. Here’s a run down of skin issues and “the fix.’
Have a new wound that’s healing and may scar? Use an antibiotic ointment daily to keep lubricated and cover with a bandage. Do this for up to 2 weeks until the healing wound is no longer raw and then use a silicone sheet or scar minimizing gels (Scar Fade) to help continue to minimize any scarring.
Have spider or varicose veins? Though they are age-related, they can also be familial, and show up in your teens or early twenties. You can use tinted moisturizers and support hose under pants. Intensed Pulse Light Therapy can help to diminish spider veins, but for more serious varicose veins you may need surgery.
Have a birth mark you hate? Certain under eye cover up makeup can be a natural looking concealer for a facial birth mark. There are also some companies (Dermablend) that make denser pigmented concealing creams as well. Treatments with the ruby laser can sometimes eradicate a birth mark as well.
Have brown sunspots on your face or chest that you despise? Using an exfoliating product coupled with a bleaching cream can work. You really want the guidance of a doctor when you try lightening facila skin areas, since you don’t want to end up with a white spot instead. Tri-luma is one prescription cream that can achieve pretty good lightening results in 4-6 weeks.
