Laurel High School
For Sumaiya Sarwar, the best thing about the last couple of weeks has been the build up of excitement for next year. Although things are winding down at Laurel High School, teachers and students are asking Sumaiya what is in store for next year and coming up with activities they want to add, projects they want to work on, etc.
Sumaiya feels like the momentum for next year is already building and that will help jumpstart the year without the awkward lull that she experienced when getting oriented at the beginning of last school year.
Students who heard from their friends about the different programs that HealthCorps carries out already enrolled for next school year. Teachers are already asking to incorporate specific lessons into their curriculum. Sumaiya is working with teachers to include mental strength lessons into the extended homerooms so that all the students would receive the lesson on a specific day. Sumaiya thinks many initiatives that she plans to introduce/add to the agenda will help reach more students and make a bigger difference at the school next year.
