Fresh from the Garden Gala

HealthCorps® took its fight against child obesity to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City for its fifth annual gala, "Fresh from the Garden," on Wednesday, April 13. Heart surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz, Emmy Award-winning nationally syndicated talk show host of "The Dr. Oz Show," and his wife Lisa Oz, co-founders of HealthCorps, served as the event's co-hosts.

The black tie event to benefit HealthCorps honored Hollywood and philanthropic couple Hugh and Deborra Lee Jackman; Russell Simmons, producer, philanthropist and wellness advocate; and Miami real-estate developer and philanthropist Tibor Hollo. Dr. Mehmet Oz served as master of ceremonies.

The gala kicked off with a red carpet "step and repeat" during the cocktail "health fair" hour, followed by a seated dinner at 8 p.m.; silent and live auctions; acceptance speeches by the honorees; and dancing until midnight with Eturnity Band.

Over 600 guests enjoyed entertainment from actor and performer Ben Vereen; Caron Wheeler, two-time Grammy winner and former lead singer of Soul II Soul; and Broadway actor Stepp Stewart who composed an original "Fresh from the Garden" song and dance that he performed with his dance troupe.

Among HealthCorps supporters who enjoyed the gala were Red Apple Group CEO John Catsimatidis; S.A.C. Capital Advisors Founder Steven Cohen; Miss Teen USA Kamie Crawford; The Coca-Cola Company CEO Muhtar Kent; television personality and Celebrity Apprentice contestant Star Jones; CBS medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook; former Def Jam and Warner Music executive Kevin Liles; Morgan Stanley's John Mack; former NBA star and philanthropist Alonzo Mourning; Miss Universe Ximena Navarrete; Wilhemina model/actor Adam Senn; model Kelsey Rogers; and some of America's most famous physicians. Eturnity Band provided dance music.
