Michelle Bouchard brings twenty years’ experience in public/private partnerships to her position as HealthCorps President where she oversees a staff of 65 and an operating budget of $8 million that impacts about 100,000 people across 13 states. Prior to heading up HealthCorps, Ms. Bouchard served as Chief Financial Officer of Governors Island Preservation and Education Corporation (GIPEC), a public benefit corporation charged with the redevelopment of the former military base in New York Harbor. She was appointed to the position by the New York Governor and New York City Mayor. At GIPEC, Ms. Bouchard oversaw $35 million in operating funds and $140 million in capital funds.
Ms. Bouchard also co-founded two not-for-profit theatres in New York City, The 42nd Street Workshop (now the WorkShop Theater) and the New Group, serving as the primary producer in both cases. In the corporate world, Ms. Bouchard served as special assistant to the Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at Hoovers Online and the covert Director of Competitive Research for a historic software consortium, the REALM.
Ms. Bouchard has served on the Boards of Directors of several not-for-profits, including the New York State Theatre Institute, Youth Counseling League, the National Green Schools Network and the 42nd Street Workshop.
She has received the New York City Family Caregiver Coalition “Mind.Body.Sprit Award,” a Good Citizen Citation from the New York City Council, a Log Cabin Republicans Image Award, as well as an Off-Off Broadway Review (OOBR) Award for Excellence in Theater Production. She was also chosen as a participant in the Joint Civilian Orientation Conference (JCOC) by the Office of the U.S. Secretary of Defense.
She has testified in front of the U.S. Senate Health Education Labor and Pension Committee on behalf of national service and has extensive media experience. She was a columnist for the New York Resident and ran for New York City Council at the time of the 9/11/01 attacks. Ms. Bouchard graduated from Wellesley College ('84) with a BA in Political Science and undertook independent media studies at MIT with Ed Diamond. She is a Native Texan and the mother of a 21-year-old son, Alex, and an 8-year-old daughter, Liberty. She is a member of the DAR, the Daughters of the Cincinnati and the Jamestown Society.
Juan J. Brea brings over 15 years’ experience in corporate and small business environments to his role at HealthCorps. He has served in various organizations as both Chief Operating Officer and Human Resources Development Operations Director. Juan began his career at American Express Company, Inc. where he held an array of positions that culminated in the last position held, Director of Operations for Global Human Resources Development. In this capacity, he managed a budget of over $50 million and tracked a global training budget of over $130 million. After his tenure at American Express, Juan was appointed Chief Operating Officer of the Executive Education Institute, a division of Provant, Inc., a publicly held provider of training and performance improvement solutions. After receiving his MBA, he started a consulting company to help small businesses streamline operations. Juan served 12 years in the United States Army Reserve Component. By the end of his second term, Juan had been promoted to a Non-Commissioned Officer status, had won the Army Achievement Medal, and had served his country with honors. He currently serves as Co-President of the PS11 PTA and sits on the board of the P.I.T. Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to educating orphans in Kenya. Juan attained his MBA at the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from New York University. He lives in Manhattan with his wife Laura and their daughters Chelsea and Sadie and dog Lola.
The Honorable Karen A. Johnson is the former Assistant Secretary of Education for Congressional and Legislative Affairs under President George W Bush. In this Senate-confirmed position she was the Department of Education’s primary contact with Capitol Hill. Before entering the Bush administration, Karen was vice president of social marketing and public affairs at Porter Novelli, where she oversaw clients including Catholic Charities and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Karen’s work is recognized internationally as well. She works with the International Republican Institute to train Iraqi women leaders and serves as a mentor to women leaders in Jordan and Egypt through CLIME . She has also worked with a disability coalition in Albania. Most recently she traveled to Afghanistan to work with 20 newly elected women Members of Parliament on constituent services, leadership and organization. She is on the Board of the Washington Mathematics Science Technology Public Charter High School in the District of Columbia. Karen began her career as a staff assistant for Congressman Duncan L. Hunter (R- CA). She is a graduate of Appalachian State University. She is the veteran of six marathons and has hiked to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Mr. Pacheco served for three and one-half years as the Controller for the Governors Island Preservation and Education Corporation. Prior to that he served in the accounting department of Merrill Lynch as a senior specialist in technology stocks. He holds a BBA degree in accounting from Baruch College. He is a Certified Non Profit Professional (CNAP). Mr. Pacheco is a native of Brooklyn.
Amy is HealthCorps Director of Corporate Communications. She brings over twenty years' experience in communications, journalism and marketing to her role. Prior to HealthCorps, she worked for five years as Director of Communications in Corporate Marketing for New York State's chief economic development agency, Empire State Development, where she launched a quarterly newsletter that served as the main marketing vehicle for the state, organized trade missions and economic summits and represented New York State at official functions. Before moving to New York City, Amy spent five years in Milan, Italy where she launched a beauty trade magazine for Fairchild Publications and served as Italian correspondent for Women's Wear Daily and Crain Communications' Advertising Age and Electronic Media. She published her first poetry chapbook, "Views from the Driveway," in 2008 and participates regularly in literary readings in New York City and Philadelphia. Amy holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Villanova University and a Masters in Business Administration from the Thunderbird School. She serves as Board Member of the Italian American Writers Association; is a member of the Communications Task Advisory Board of the NJ Department of Health’s ShapingNJ health initiative and belongs to the International Association of Business Communicators.
Brandishing a degree in Health Policy from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Jessica brings a passion for education and an understanding of the correlation between positive health habits and student academic achievement to the HealthCorps team. She oversees the HealthCorps program in Oregon, California, and Arizona.
Jessica started out at HealthCorps as Coordinator at Franklin Lane High School in Brooklyn, where she started the school’s first garden and developed an elective class curriculum focused on food and culture. In addition to her class work, afterschool activities and community outreach, Jessica created a dynamic School Wellness Council where she piloted and developed best practices in assessing school site wellness. This became a prototype for other schools in the HealthCorps network. Prior to her role as HealthCorps Coordinator, Jessica served as Assistant Director at Camp Henry and helped establish and run the Camp Henry Outdoor School, which teaches outdoor leadership and environmental skills and is based her hometown of Asheville, NC.
Meghan Berry is a HealthCorps Regional Supervisor, overseeing HealthCorps sites and coordinators in Texas, Mississippi, New Jersey, Ohio, Louisiana, and Florida. In addition she was a Summer Institute Director, providing initial training for all new HealthCorps Coordinators. Meghan began her career with HealthCorps in 2008, working as a HealthCorps coordinator at Tampa Technical High School, teaching HealthCorps’ nutrition, fitness, and mental strength curriculum to hundreds of students and faculty each year. In addition to her work with HealthCorps Meghan regularly volunteered at a substance abuse treatment center in Tampa where she taught female residential clients how to live a healthier lifestyle for themselves and their families. A 2007 graduate of Florida State University, Meghan is passionate about helping at risk adolescents and young adults improve their decision making skills and health.
Ian brings experience as a teacher, a coach, and a mentor to the HealthCorps organization. He graduated from Gettysburg College with a B.A. in English Literature, where he captained the men’s soccer team.
Before becoming East Coast Regional Supervisor, Ian worked as a HealthCorps Coordinator for two years in New York City’s Lower East Side Preparatory School. His lifelong interest in athletics led to his creation of LESP Sports Nights, monthly student-organized and implemented sports competitions, and his teaching of weekly after school sports classes. Ian also established the LESP Wellness Council, created a school garden, led student participants in the Teen Battle Chef / Whole Foods Market Cook-Off Series, and established numerous community partnerships as part of delivering the HealthCorps program.
As East Coast Regional Supervisor, Ian supports and advises all HealthCorps school sites in New York, Delaware, Baltimore, and Washington DC.
